24th MEU, First to Deploy from East Coast with HIMARS

The 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s (MEU) 2021 deployment cycle brings with it a capability not yet employed by an East Coast MEU. In addition to the more traditional assets allocated to the MEU as it composited ground, logistics, and aviation combat elements in September 2020, the crisis response force was also assigned a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) detachment.

24th MEU Conducts Live-Fire from the Sea

This past weekend, Marines and Sailors of 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) conducted a company-sized live-fire amphibious raid during the unit’s Composite Unit Training Exercise (COMPTUEX)—the first time in recent history that a live-fire evolution of this type and scale has taken place during an East Coast-based MEU’s pre-deployment training.

A Force Protected

Today Marines and sailors of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) begin to receive their final dose of the two-dose COVID-19 vaccination series. Recently approved for distribution by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), 24th MEU personnel received their first dose in early January, just weeks after supplies were initially authorized for distribution by the Department of Defense (DOD).
