Lt. Col. John Golden, commanding officer, Security Cooperation Marine Air Ground Task Force, Africa Partnership Station 10, walks with Lt. Col Jack O’Toole, operations officer, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, after turning over Joint Task Force – Haiti humanitarian assistance operations for the city of Carrefour to Battalion Landing Team 1/9. The SCMAGTF was the first JTF-H unit in Carrefour and worked closely with United Nations forces to provide emergency medical care and food and water distribution to the local populace. The SCMAGTF also established a Civil Military Operations Center, working closely with multiple non-governmental organizations and local government officials to ensure distribution of U.S. government humanitarian assistance services, and to facilitate a distribution site in Carrefour during the World Food Program food push. Approximately 130 Marines and Sailors make up the SCMAGTF. BLT 1/9 is comprised of approximately 1,200 Marines and Sailors and commanded by Lt. Col. Robert Salasko.
