MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Sgt. Jose Alvarez, a motor transportation mechanic with Charlie Company, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit to return home from deployment on Camp Lejeune, Dec. 16, 2012. The 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit has returned to the U.S. after completing nearly nine months deployed as an expeditionary crisis response force with the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group. Approximately 2,300 Marines and Sailors of the 24th MEU will be offloading over the next few days from amphibious assault ships USS Iwo Jima, USS New York and USS Gunston Hall.
