24th MEU trains airborne "raiders"

20 Sep 2007 | Lance Cpl. Alex C. Guerra 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit

The 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, raids imitation insurgent strongholds as part of the Heliborne Company Raid Course.

Marines learn to proficiently approach and enter buildings and clear rooms free of hostile threats, using positive identification and lethal force if necessary.

Instructors from Special Operations Training Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force guide, train and critique the BLT Marines in heliborne raid tactics and procedures during the 10 day course.

The Helo Raid Course is the one of several training events during the MEU’s pre-deployment workups that kicked off earlier this summer. The 24th MEU is scheduled to deploy in 2008 to act as the nation’s maritime pre-positioned force in readiness for the Eastern Hemisphere.
