MANDA BAY, Kenya -- Marines and Sailors from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) recently conducted a challenging offload of vehicles, supplies, and personnel for Exercise Edged Mallet 2003 in Manda Bay, Kenya. The exercise kicked off when vehicles offloaded from a USS Austin (LPD-4) Landing Craft Utility and forged through deep water to cross the Kenyan beach. Tide levels and coral reef prevented the LCU from getting to the shoreline, but drivers from MEU service Support Group 24 overcame the problem and safely got all vehicles ashore.
