ATLANTIC OCEAN (Feb. 14, 2012) -- An MH-53E Super Stallion assigned to Marine Medium Tilt Rotor Squadron VMM 261 (Reinforced), lifts a M-777 Howitzer assigned to Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), off the flight deck of amphibious transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21). New York is underway participating in Certification Exercise (CERTEX), the final qualification for the 24th MEU and Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group before their scheduled spring deployment.
