The USS Iwo Jima Cruises through the waves of the Atlantic Ocean as it makes its way to the Persian Gulf on June 12, 2006. The USS Iwo Jima is the flagship of the Iwo Jima Strike Group. The Group consists of transport ships and cruisers, with a vital mission of transporting and sustaining the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable). The 24th MEU is the equivalent of a small army brigade with an air force. The 24th MEU is America's 911 force, and will be on call in the CENTCOM region.
