First Sgt. James F. Cully, first sergeant, A Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, cuts through the drywall of Staff Sgt. Edward J. Schneider's Slidell, La., home. Five Marines from Alpha Co. helped Schneider after storm surge from Hurricane Katrina filled his home with five feet of water. The battalion was the Marine Corps' contribution to Joint Task Force Katrina.
