24th MEU raids buildings in Westover

13 May 2004 | Lance Cpl. Sarah A. Beavers 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit

Marines of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit's Maritime Special Purpose Force conducted a mock raid on two buildings in Westover, W.Va., as part of the MEU's Training in an Urban Environment Exercise May 13.

During the raid, Marines from the force's assault element, composed of the MEU's Force Reconnaissance Platoon, breached the entrance to the building, engaging simulated enemy combatants and capturing simulated enemy prisoners of war.

Marines from the force's security element kept a watchful eye outside of the building and helped evacuate the wounded via CH-46E Sea Knight helicopter.

TRUEX allowed the Marines of the MEU to train in urban combat scenarios they may face during their upcoming deployment.
