Marines from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit offload from Navy hovercrafts to begin a month-long training exercise here. The hovercraft, called a Landing Craft Air Cushioned (LCAC), ferried the Marines to shore from amphibious ships of the Nassau Amphibious Ready Group, which the 24th MEU is currently embarked on for a 7-month deployment that started in January. Each of the MEU’s units will participate in various training exercises in Djibouti, which will allow the Marines to sustain their warfighting skills while deployed. The 24th MEU consists of Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment; Marine Medium Tilt-Rotor Squadron VMM 162 (Reinforced); and Combat Logistics Battalion 24.
