Marines from Golf Company, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) were the first to touch the beach-landing site at Manda Bay, Kenya for Exercise Edged Mallet 2003. Combat Rubber Reconnaissance Crafts were launched from USS Austin (LPD-4) early on the morning of November 27th, and soon after Marines secured the beach for a Landing Craft Utility offload.From the Beach, Golf Co. cleared the route to the camp by foot patrol. Once a security perimeter was established around the site, personnel and supplies were moved in and the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) was able to conduct their exercise.
