NEW YORK CITY -- Marines from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit took part in a motivational run to the site where the World Trade Center Towers were destroyed in the September 11 terrorist attacks. The 24th MEU, based for the week on the USS John F. Kennedy, ferried to Battery Park before beginning the two-mile roundtrip run. The Marines shouted cadence as they ran into the site before somberly remembering the attacks in a wreath laying ceremony.The 24th MEU is in New York for the 15th annual Fleet Week, celebrating the capabilities and personnel of the Navy and Marine Corps team. The motivational run was one of many events the 24th MEU will be a part of in New York. Fleet week, which began May 25, will end June 1.
