16 Jan 2001 | Sgt. Kevin Dolloson

For the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (24th MEU), training during TRUEX XXXIX continued, even amidst a parade honoring the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The parade, held Jan. 15 - King's actual birthday - boasted nearly 500 floats and entries and more than 20,000 spectators.

A Color Guard detachment of Marines from Battalion Landing Team 2/8 represented the MEU in honoring Dr. King's legacy.

The parade began 10 a.m. and ended at around 1 p.m. and covered three main streets in the downtown Savannah historic district.

The following photos depict the parade and the MEU's representation, and were taken by Sgt. Kevin Dolloson, Sgt. Arthur Stone and LCpl. Jeffrey Sisto.
