21 Dec 2002 | Sgt. Zachary A. Bathon 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit

Marines from the Low-Altitude Air Defense Detachment, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) lit up targets in the water with their M3P .50 caliber machine guns during an Avenger surface-to-air weapons system live-fire shoot from the flightdeck of the USS Nassau (LHA-4) Dec. 21. During the shoot, the Marines pushed floating targets off the flightdeck of the Nassau into the water and honed their gunnery skills by engaging the targets at night.
